Baseline Human Health Risk Assessments
Horizon toxicologists have prepared numerous baseline human health risk assessments for Superfund sites that required the quantification of health risks from multiple exposure pathways. Available data were studied to determine a list of chemicals of potential concern, current and potential future exposed populations were identified, and computer models of exposure levels to these populations were prepared. Using the available toxicity information for each chemical and the modeled concentrations for each exposed population, Horizon staff calculated the cancer and non-cancer health effects resulting from exposure. Horizon staff also identified and analyzed the significance of uncertainties in the methodologies, the data collected, and the derived toxicity information.
